Bob Marley was a major adidas head. The cultural icon and the Three Stripes had natural synergy together, both sharing a devoted love for football, seen through the German giant’s catalog and in on-pitch shots of Tuff Gong throughout the years. With the adidas SL72 emerging towards the top of the year as their next big retro shoe and Marley having sported the model plenty, there’s an obvious synergy at play once again with the official collab launching soon.
Rastafarian red, green and yellow has long been synonymous with the reggae legend, and trust and believe, it makes an appearance on his official shoe. However, it’s in subversive fashion, eschewing those bright primaries for tonal applications underfoot, expressed in burgundy, cream and pastel green. As with any collab shoe, a ton of co-branding details make their way onto this SL72, but again, there’s a heightened attention to detail in how that’s executed. A black & white impression of Marley is stamped on the tongue, his signature appears in gold on the heel counter and retro branding swaps his name for adidas’ on the insole.
Importantly, though this is the most major release info we’ve gotten for this shoe, it’s not the first we’re hearing of it. The Three Stripes shipped out an early version to Sneaker News which we unboxed, seemingly a sample given the difference in the black collared version pictured below and the white collar colorway featured here.
