Eastern Records Dancehall act, Ibienjah has revealed the concept behind his latest song and how his career began in a close interview with Macqathylive.
In the interview he revealed to us, the new song has a lot in connection with how rough his music journey has been like but as usual there is something to smile about, because today he can tell a different story.
According to the Sexicise crooner, his music journey started from age twelve(12) when he once leaved with one Mr. Albert Kwashie Lawson who happens to be the uncle at Shukura, a suburb of Accra after he lost both parent at a very tender age.
He further revealed that Mr. Albert who was a music enthusiast to him at the time, will often work on musical instruments by way of maintenance and later play reggae music out of the loudspeakers.
He said this won his heart and followed the steps of his uncle due to his love for music. At age twelve, during his Junior High education level, he recorded his first single, titled, “Dance On” which made him popular after performing the said song at Royal Gospel his former school also in Shukura.
After this period his music journey met the reality of life where musicians will use offensive words against each other with the aim to overcome one another in a horiffic event to stay relivant.
The musician who also serves as a professional chef at his own lounge, Jubilee lounge bar and Restaurant in Accra, once quit music due to some uncertainties, he told Macqathylive.
In his own words he said, “I try to give up because sometimes the closest people in your life discourages you”.
This happened when he joined a music duo called “WeCliq” during his early twenties. The same group which enabled him his first professional song almost brought an end to his career when a fellow group member told him his voice sounds horrible.
“I was told I had a terrible voice when I was in the group one of my group mates made that point straight to my face that I have a terrible voice and I should consider quitting music”
“And my Management to be precise Ennwai signed me to his label because of those hash words, because he witnessed it himself and really comforted me and told me I have a great voice and I shouldn’t be bothered about what others might think about me so Ennwai is really the one that inspired my coming back to music”
He continued stating that what again propelled him to return to music was his capabilities and his management led by Afro Fusion singer Ennwai.
He told us at the latter part when it all looked that his music journey was over, due to the disapproval approach by some of his peers which almost took him off his music dreams, fellow Ghanaian star Ennwai brought a sunshine in the midst of it all
“I owe a lot to Ennwai he is my King” he disclosed.
He further stated, “back then I was still underground trying to establish my restaurant and lounge which I have a routine Friday dancehall freestyle thing and I take that moment to sing to my customers who advises me to do this music.
He said, “until I met Ennwai who confirmed I’m talented and in that regard wants to work with me and assist me through me journey, that's why I was signed on Eastern Records, Ibienjah narrated.
Eastern Records is the official record label for Ennwai. Currently Ibienjah is one of the artists dominating on the label.
