Known and celebrated as an Azonto King Gasmilla has cleared the air about the brouhaha between him and Sarkodie over who innovated Azonto and projected it to the world.
Speaking on Live FM's Showbiz Show on Sunday Mr. Lamptey noted that, it baffle's him when he hear's Azonto is about to be revived, to him Azonto is not dead and has never died as Sarkodie claims.
Rather he revealed that the problem Azonto faced and has been facing is, its acceptance as a genre has been delayed by award schemes, it is still believed by many award schemes that Azonto is a dance but if Azonto is regarded as a genre then a bigger attention might be given to it. "That is why most Azonto songs had a good year but was never nominated not to talk about awarding the artist.
But according to Gasmila Azonto has been already accepted by the Ga community as a genre, he described the yet to be made genre that his Ga families leaving in the Ga communities knows him and other musicians such as Nii Funny, Spanky, Wisa Gried, Bukom Banku and many others who haven't stopped chasing the genre,"so if someone stopped and he's coming back he must come calmly".
He also made reference that when a UK DJ, DJ Afro started a segment on his radio show playing Ghanaian Azonto songs, multiples of Nigerian artists involved themselves and added much to it.
He further stated that his all about music and since 2011 this has been the agenda he has been pushing to the world, even when the masses stopped dropping Azonto songs he continued up to this time.
He said, "bring back Azonto must be a Ghanaian agenda so that we can correct our mistakes, then we can sell Azonto to the rest of the world and more over Azonto was never dead and i wonder how one would resurrect something which was not dead. Ghanaians must wake up, my new jam Keke is coming out from an album, its describes me as an azonto artist, how am versatile within the genre".
Ever since Sarkodie twitted, describing how Azonto has been neglected and deserves much attention, radio stations in Accra has taken the agenda on and lately most DJ's plays lot of Ghanaian old and news Azonto hits.
