-Year-Old JHS Student Commits Suicide By Hanging

Residents of Aiyinabo in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region woke up to sad and shocking news on Monday when a Junior High School student of 12 years was found dead in his room. He committed suicide.

The student identified as Samuel Opoku-Boateng committed the act using his mother’s scarf as reported to our source. He was a student of Adventist Preparatory School (APS) in JHS 1.

His mother, Madam Dorcas Opoku is still in shock as to what really might have lead to her son committing suicide at that early age. In her report about the incident, she said that on Sunday evening before the incident, she heard her son and his friends playing loud music in his room which was uncommon of him and for students who had to sleep early and prepare for school the next day.

As a caring mother, she went inside the room to tell them to turn off the music and told his son to retire to bed because school awaits the next morning, afterward she left for her room to sleep as it was already late in the evening.
On Monday thus the next morning, she went to his sons’ room to wake him up for school, only to see his beloved son hanged on her headscarf in his room quickly she reported to the police.
In tears, she said this to reporters who were there as of that time: “that was the last time we spoke last night. I did not hear from him again until this morning when I realized that he was not up as he usually did to prepare for school which made me curious,”
According to the police, the body of Samuel Opoku-Boateng has been moved to the Axim Hospital Morgue in the Nzema East District and investigations are currently ongoing.
May the soul of this young boy rest in peace.
