Gundogan told SportBible: “N’Golo Kante is someone who’s really annoying for a midfielder.
“For a midfielder like me who’s into passing and controlling the game, it’s not easy to play against someone like him.
“You feel like you’re past him and then he just appears again.”
Fans have lauded Kante’s mosquito-like abilities since he arrived in English football four-and-a-half years ago, a popular joke being that 70 per cent of the globe is covered by water – and the rest by N’Golo Kante.
Many also adore him as one of the nicest and most humble blokes in football, often popping up at mosques and hanging out with fans in public.
While Gundogan has Rodri and Fernandinho to rely upon for the anchor man role, he wants to develop individually and enter the echelons of the world’s top midfielders.
He continued: “The Premier League has the best players in the world so every single game is tough and that’s why I’m here – I want to challenge myself and compete with the best and Kante is one of the best midfielders in the world.”
Gundogan will get his next chance to face off with Kante in March when City visit Stamford Bridge for a lunchtime kick-off.
Before then they have a Carabao Cup semi-final to finish off with Manchester United, hosting their neighbours on Wednesday evening with a 3-1 aggregate lead.
